Book-ish

Happy Day 18
Well, I've gotten a little behind in posting them here (going to try to play catch up over the next few days), but over on Instagram, I have been sticking with my 100 Happy Days project. It feels good!

A week and a half ago was the West Seattle community-wide garage sale, with something like 280 sales! We had ambitious plans to go around hunting for some of the bigger baby items. We didn't get too late of a start, but after a couple of hours walking around our immediate neighborhood, we determined that all the really early birds got the juicy worms. Silly tired (from walking up a couple of embarrassingly small hills) and famished we threw in the towel and went to brunch.

But of course I had to buy something and shockingly that something was a book. I am really coming to accept it's not in the reading or even necessarily looking at the pictures, it's the collecting. (That was a confession of sorts. :) )

Something … Edgier

Happy Day 17
Don't get me wrong, I love pink, but it kind of drives me crazy that it's practically impossible to find baby clothes for little girls that aren't or don't contain some shade of the color. So we decided to make our first gifts to our baby girl a little more pop culture, reflecting mom's taste in music and dad's sense of humor respectively.

The Best

(Happy Day 16)
ice cream on the planet, Jeni's, made with love in Columbus, OH. Greg dutifully went on a 10 pm run to the neighborhood grocery, which thankfully stocks it. ♡ And if anyone wants to get me, I mean US, this at any point, I will gladly accept. Just saying. Hint, hint.

On the Job

Happy Day 15
Yesterday I monitored some utility work on an old farmstead that also happens to be an archaeological site, the whole of which is being turned into a new park with trails and sports fields and playgrounds and the like. The 1911 (I believe) house is still standing on the property. I saw photos of it in a report and immediately fell in love and was pretty excited to see it in person.
So during lulls in the action I took some gratuitous photos. Look at those diamond-shaped shingles in the gables and the window casings!
Very happy when I saw this.
And it definitely needs some love. It's festooned with knob and tube wiring and I do believe all the water pipes are run on the outside too. i.e. electricity and indoor plumbing are not original elements.
The fog burned off and the sun came out and it stopped looking so ominous.
On my way out of town I caught site of this old railroad tressel. How could I pass up that sign and that setting?

Ahhhh, Relaxation is in the Air

Happy Day 14
Burning the last Lavender from the Columbus candle store to which I remain steadfastly loyal. I ordered half a dozen reinforcements today.

Smells Minty

Happy Day 11
Derby Day wouldn't be complete. I might not be able to drink one, but I can sniff Greg's all I want.
He was kind enough to make me a virgin smash so I wouldn't feel so left out. Off to the races!

Another Day...

(Happy Day 10)
another nursery, this time West Seattle Nursery, a great smaller garden center, nice and close to home. All these wee little maples, I did manage to choose one for one of our window boxes and a few other things, got them home, and with some help from husband got them in the dirt. Even though it wasn't as much time as I was hoping to spend gardening today (or this week for that matter, given it was in the upper 70s and sunny every day), I'll still take it and be happy for it.

Too. Many. Plants.

Happy Day 9
After work today I visited Swanson's Nursery up on Seattle's north side at Kelly of Botanique's recommendation for the diversity of choices on offer. Even though I was armed with the plant list she provided me post-cutting garden consult, and an idea of what areas of the garden I wanted to tackle next, I still ended up getting totally overwhelmed by the massive selection spread over such a massive area. And I didn't even venture out of the annuals and perennials into the trees and shrubs. So overwhelmed that I walked away totally empty handed! Planning to regroup, sharpen my focus even more, and try again next week. :)
